Firstly I just want to say there are definitely no rules about what you should and shouldn’t wear depending on your length of hair.
I just thought I’d share some interesting findings I’ve come to notice during my limited experience of life with short hair (it’s been 10 months since I had the big chop). I’ve found that certain styles of clothes seem to suit me more than others now that I’m in the short hair club. It’s not obvious, just small things that you might like to try if you have short hair or are considering a cut this year.
Styles that seem to work with short hair:
Tailored / structured pieces and outfits: The definition of a well tailored top, dress or jacket seems to suit the shortness of my hair. Maybe it’s just the simpleness of my hair that helps the tailored look stand out but it seems to work.
Turtle necks / draped collars: Last winter I just couldn’t get enough of these styles. And the same goes with scarves. They tend to stand out a bit more with short hair and frame your face nicely.
Backless or racer back tops for something fun: Show off your back!
Statement earrings: Get some value out of your dangly earrings because they will be seen all the time, not hidden or caught in long tresses.
The feminine contrast: If your haircut is quite boyish looking, it can be fun to contrast it with a more feminine outfit like a short skirt and cute T-shirt or blouse.
Some outfits just don’t seem to look right with my short hair at the moment. Items like maxi dresses, strapless tops or dresses and some floaty boho styles feel a bit odd with my short hair. I know there are other factors at play including skin tone, body shape, face shape etc etc but hair length is definitely factor for me these days!!
What do you think? Do you have certain clothes that look better depending on the length of your hair?
