When you google “what are ponte pants?” this is what you get:
Ponte pants are a pant-legging hybrid made with a double-knit process. They’re firmer than leggings, yet more stretchy than jeans or trousers.
Two words stand out for me – firmer and stretchy! I love leggings but sometimes they do feel a little thin in the cooler months. Not to mention their inability to hide and smooth the lumpy bits. And stretchy equals comfort with a capital C.
When I tried on the Philosophy Australia ponte pants I knew they’d be perfect for casual days of mum duty but then I realised I could extend the comfort into my work days too. These ponte pants have cool pleather side panels (trendy mum tick). The stretch comes from the other fabric which is viscose elastane. Once they’re on, they’re super snug and the high thick waistband prevents any muffin issues.
So I present to you: Ponte Pants 3 Ways. I’ve also got a little hint of Spring incorporated into the last outfit because there’s only 40 days to go!
Look 1: With a tunic top and ankle boots
This is such a versatile outfit. I would wear this to work as I can dress more on the smart casual end of the corporate spectrum. However it’s also a great weekend or dinner out option as the pants are a bit more dressy than regular leggings. While the tunic is quite short, it still provides good bum coverage and it’s nice for the pants to remain as the hero piece of the outfit.
Look 2: Sporty casual
I wore this outfit last Saturday when the weather was cold and windy and my day involved the ultimate weekend trifecta – grocery shopping, swimming lessons and serious household rearranging. I excelled in all three events and I credit it to the comfort and maneuverability (what a great word) of these pants. I took off the cardi when I was lifting furniture with husband then I threw it back on when we headed to the pool. So easy. I always enjoying mixing and contrasting colours and textures. The black pleather with the bright sneakers is fun and keeps the weekend chores interesting
Look 3: Work or a Fancy Shmancy Occasion
For this outfit, I’m wearing heels and showing some ankle which breaks up the outfit and hopefully makes my short legs look a little longer! I’m also excited to share one of Philosophy Australia’s spring pieces – the Drax top in citrus. The ultra light knit fabric of this top is soft and the colour is amazing. Keep your eye out for lots of citrus tones this spring!
The bright citrus yellow looks great with white, black, grey and navy. Here I’ve added a grey blazer for extra warmth:
So now I’m wondering whether my regular leggings will ever get worn again!! The quality and fit of these ponte pants is just too good. The higher waist and thick fabric are more flattering and are also warmer for the winter months. And they’re machine washable – too easy and too many ticks. See you later leggings.
Philosophy Australia offers at least six styles of ponte pants each winter season, in various different leg widths. The ones I’m wearing with the pleather panels are called Jerry.
One final piece of ponte trivia: Ponte is actually the name of the fabric quality, which is the heavy double knit jersey and is officially called Pontiroma.
Are you a ponte pants fan? How do you like to wear yours?
