Last week I had the most fantastical day! It involved a mini makeover, trying on amazing clothes, matching them with my own clothes and then getting some glamourous photos taken in my garden. It felt rather indulgent to spend three hours playing hair, makeup and dressups! Kind of nice considering I only have sons and don’t really get the chance to do such fun girly activities
Jenny from the Kelly in Kelly & Port contacted me to see if I’d like to be involved in a mini makeover and styling session. I knew the brand and I knew how special their pieces are so I said absolutely YES!
Jenny came to my place with a beautiful array of their collection including some gorgeous statement necklaces and hats. Over a cup of tea we discussed and planned the type of outfits we would put together using a combination of my own clothes and the Kelly & Port items. Our aim was to show how the pieces can be worn for both casual days and dressier / work occasions. Then it was on to operation hair and makeup followed by the photoshoot.
The Pencil Skirt: First up, we put together a casual outfit featuring the Kelly & Port Gwenyth pencil skirt ($79.50) with a black T-shirt, flats and my yellow bag for a splash of colour. The skirt is super comfy and stretchy and as someone who hasn’t loved wearing pencil skirts in the past, I am fully converted! I’d wear this outfit out for lunch, coffee with friends, a playdate, to the shops etc etc. We then added my denim jacket for another great casual option on cooler days.

The skirt is also perfect for a more dressy occasion. We added a blazer and heels with an amazing Kelly & Port statement necklace (yes it’s my same black top with a gorgeous monochrome hand crafted piece). This outfit would be great for work, dinner out or a special occasion.

The floral shorts: Here I’m wearing the Kelly & Port Victoria Short ($159) in a funky casual style to suit the autumn and winter weather. The shorts are beautifully designed and just feel so right in waist, length and pocket placement. They are definitely a piece I would love to wear year round so it was great to style them with some black tights and ankle boots to show their versatility. This hat is by Kelly & Port’s partner brand Embellish Atelier and while I thought I wasn’t a hat person, the quality and comfort of this piece totally won me over.

Keeping with the same theme, these perfectly tailored shorts also come in black which makes them even more versatile and mum friendly We added the Kelly & Port Adelyn jacket and turquoise statement necklace and yet another funky casual outfit was born.
The sparkly blouse: The Kelly & Port Dee Dee top ($199) is ideal for a night out when you want a beautiful statement top to go with jeans or black pants. The exquisite detailing is amazing! We kept the rest of the outfit simple so the top remained the focus.

And then I changed into my lighter shaded jeans, flats and a hat for a very fun casual look!
The floral skirt: Lastly we had a great time putting together a beautiful girly outfit. I’m wearing the Kelly & Port Amelie ladylike skirt ($109.50) with the Kelly & Port Camilia top ($63.60). I adore the style of the top with the wider round neck and the skirt is again designed to perfection. I’d love to wear this outfit to work or out to lunch or dinner (it could work for day or night). I really felt rather glamourous as I posed in front of my neighbour’s garage door
So I’d like to summarise my experience with the following:
- Don’t ignore certain styles until you try them (like me with pencil skirts and hats!)
- Key pieces for your wardrobe should have great design, the right cut and perfect tailoring (like all these beautiful items)
- Great pieces should be worn year round
- Everyone needs their hair and makeup done for them once in a while!
Do you have any other wardrobe words of wisdom for adding key pieces to your wardrobe? Which is your favourite Kelly & Port piece?
