You know when a brand brings out a new trend / look and you think “what were they thinking??” and “that’ll never catch on”. I have been guilty of this line of thought quite a few times in the past but it’s amazing how many times I’ve been proven wrong. There’s a reason why trends become popular and stick around for more than one season. It’s taken me a while to realise that until you try a new style / trend on for yourself, you just can’t discount it.
I thought I’d never wear skinny jeans. Wrong.
I thought I’d never wear jeggings. Wrong.
I thought I’d never wear knee high boots. Wrong.
I thought I’d never wear a jumpsuit. Wrong.
So when the harem pant / drop crotch pant made it’s appearance you’d think I would have been more open minded. Nope. I really believed it wasn’t for me. Then I saw a few fabulous women wearing them on Instagram and I was intrigued. I took a stroll through Seed where every second pair of pants has a drop crotch and I decided to give them a go. I tried on a pair of plain black 100% cotton jersey harem pants and I was SOLD. I’ve had them for about six weeks and I’ve worn them a lot more than I expected. They are just soooo comfy.
I’ve enjoyed them so much that last week I invested in a second pair!! A lovely striped pair from Dress Temple – the Mika and Gala striped slouch pant. The fabric is a cotton/poly blend so they’re super smooth and have a lovely drapey look.
So I thought I’d share a few ways to wear these new found favourite pants of mine. I may never wear jeans again!
Feeling comfy and cosy in the striped pants with a bright scarf. Long sleeved tee is from Country Road and shoes are from Zensu Shoes.
Another casual option for the cooler months. Wearing Country Road shirt and knit with the Dress Temple pants and Zensu shoes. (If you’d like some more ideas on how to wear a short sleeved knit, check out my post on Winter Wardrobe Planning: The Short Sleeved Knit)
So the BIG question: Are you a fan of these pants? Have I succeeded in persuading you to try them? I seriously think this is such a successful trend already because the style of the pants is flattering for everyone. Tapered at the ankle and looser up top – what more could you ask for!
I tend to wear my harem pants for casual occasions but if you’re looking for some ideas on how to style these for more dressy occasions, I highly recommend you check out:
