Last week my husband and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary. We don’t do presents. We just do a really nice dinner out. My husband gets to experience a fair bit of fine dining with work so when these opportunities come along for me too, I get quite excited. Sitting through three courses of amazing food while being served by someone else and then not having to wash up is my idea of heaven.
We organised for my parents to babysit our boys on the Friday night and we even booked a taxi so we could enjoy a few drinks. All was set. It wasn’t until Friday afternoon that I realised I hadn’t even planned what I was going to wear. I was so focussed on booking the babysitters and restaurant that I totally forgot about the outfit!! Not a big deal really but it became a challenge as the evening approached. The little lords and I had a busy day with grocery shopping and a swim at the beach and then suddenly it was their dinner time followed by the normal bathtime shenanigans and I still hadn’t chosen the outfit!
While the little lords performed their daily naked rumble sprint dance through the house I snuck to my bedroom to review the dress situation. I came across a favourite I hadn’t worn for a while. A Portmans dress from two years ago with lovely pastel colouring. Done. But it looked a bit casual / beachy by itself. So I added some neutral heels and a black blazer and voila I was ready. It was one of my finest and quickest decisions. And the moral to the story is – how good are heels and a blazer??!! They zjoosh up an outfit so easily and work so well with dresses and with jeans.
I highly recommend having a nude heel and black blazer on hand for these important occasions. I bought this blazer online from The Iconic last year. I find sites like The Iconic and Birdsnest have a great range of blazers from all different brands so you have a lot more choice of styles and cuts. They also have great returns policies so can be sent back if the fit is not right. If you’re interested in adding a black blazer or nude heel to your wardrobe, here are my picks. Number 1 in the shoes is an exact match to what I’m wearing and number 1 in the blazers is very similar to mine (same brand).
1. Classic blazer $39.98 by Atmos&here at The Iconic; 2. Ponti button blazer $89.95 by Bird Keepers at Birdsnest; 3. Proxy blazer $104.30 by Wish at The Iconic; 4. Colour block blazer $69.95 by Wite at Birdsnest.
Final bit of interesting trivia – I didn’t realise the 9th wedding anniversary gift theme was leather when I chose to wear my leather lapel blazer!
So what’s your secret weapon when you need to find a special outfit with speed? Are you a blazer and heels fan?
