I’ve only ever owned one denim jacket in my life before now. It was the period from 2002 to 2005. It was an Esprit dark denim number and looking back, I think it may have been two or even three sizes too big. “I’ll need space to wear jumpers underneath” I thought sensibly when I bought it. I looked like a gridiron footballer. Seriously I did. So I’m now pleased to announce those times are over and there’s a new love in my life.
Last week I spent a delightful five nights in Noosa with husband, the little lords and husband’s family. There were 15 of us staying all together so during those magnificent few hours when my gorgeous nieces entertained the little lords, I snuck off to peruse the Hastings St stores.
I came across a store called Goddess which included numerous reasonably priced maxi dresses, kimonos and floral shorts. I found a sale rack at the back and there, smiling down at me, were half price denim jackets in a soft light shade of denim with grey rib trim. It was love at first sight. Then I glanced at the price tag – $29.95. I just had to try it on – would we be compatible? Was it too good to be true?
It was meant to be. It was the easiest shopping decision I think I’ve ever made. The jacket is not bulky or heavy. It’s light weight and cropped so looks good with longer tops underneath. The brand is Refuge Denim and after two wearings already, I’m still completely smitten.
I now understand the beauty of a great denim jacket. I’ll pretty much wear it nine months of the year. I can’t seem to pull off the double denim look but with dresses, shorts, printed pants and skirts, it’s the perfect piece to keep warm, comfortable and stylish. Highly recommended.
Gotta go. My denim jacket just sent me a text from my wardrobe to say it wants to discuss tomorrow’s outfit.
Do you have a favourite denim piece? A fond denim purchase memory?
