Ohayoo gozaimasu. Ogenki desuka? Kimono ga sugoi desu nee!!
Translation: Good morning. How are you? Kimonos are great aren’t they!!
You’d think my Japanese would be a little more advanced after studying it for my HSC but that was 17 years ago so these basic sentences are as good as it gets these days. I have been to Japan twice and both times I got to wear a traditional kimono. Such beautiful garments and the fabrics are amazing. Here’s a pic of me in 2007 in Niseko trying on a kimono in a restaurant after a few too many sakes
I recently bought a (non-traditional) kimono jacket and I have received many comments and questions about it. It’s a fabulous light weight item that can be worn in any season – over a knit in winter or even over your swimmers in summer! I bought it from 4princessmumma but I don’t think this print is still available. They do have some other patterns and regularly have new stock. I also recently read a fabulous post by icurvy on how to wear a longline kimono. A great idea for a night out.
So for this week’s moodboard I’ve put together a selection of lovely kimonos to suit any weather wherever you are in the world. Some are even under $50!! Well worth adding one to your wardrobe.
1. Janis printed kimono $49.99 by Jeanswest; 2. Tropical print kimono $45 by Blue Bungalow; 3. Dana printed kimono $59.99 by Jeanswest; 4. Animal serape $89.95 by Sussan; 5. Foulard print shrug $89.95 by 17 Sundays at Birdsnest; 6. Contrast sleeve kimono $34.95 by Sunny Girl at Birdsnest.
What do you think of the kimono? Do you own one? How do you wear yours?
