Given the satisfaction and direction I achieved last week conducting my 90 day blog report card, I thought I might continue the theme this week with a “Life balance reportcard”.
Everyone’s read those tips on how to get good balance in your life. You need stimulation and enjoyment in all areas supposedly – personal, physical, career/education, social, spiritual, family and financial. I had to look those up. I had forgotten what I was supposed to balance. I think I lost the ability to balance things after falling pregnant with little lord #2 and then life became truly hectic when he was born. I had two boys under two for about five months and I think 23.5 hours a day fell into the one category which I like to call mother-nappy changer-feeder-pack horse-chauffer-negotiator-climbing frame. The other 30 minutes were spent in the shower and toilet. Often not alone. But at least I had “physical” covered
My boys are 4 and 2.5 now and I have been able to reclaim a little piece of the Personal pie through this blog which I’m enjoying immensely. But what about other areas of my life? Lets review and assess…
This blog also enables me to fulfil the “education” part of my brain as I’m being forced to learn a lot of new skills quickly. See more about this here. And my part time marketing job is pleasantly challenging and stimulating. So big tick for Education/Career.
Family – no problems there. Still a committed pack horse.
Financial – bathroom renovation slightly over budget. Improvement required.
Spiritual – new bath in bathroom allows time with candles and wine. Sorted.
Physical – hmmm not too bad on that front. Playing netball, doing a few runs here and there and making sure I eat pretty well and drink wine moderately (Mondays off – not bad huh).
But now we get to the problem. Social. Or should I say unsocial. Between play dates where I barely finish a sentence due to breaking up fights and reprimanding little lord 2 for pushing another child and 7 minute phonecalls to girlfriends on our way to work with kids in the back of the car singing Twinkle Twinkle, I’m finding a serious lack of quality social situations in my life. Yes husband and I try to chat about our day and discuss Game of Thrones world issues in the evenings but even that doesn’t feel like enough. So I give myself a Fail (not of epic proportions, but a fail nonetheless).
I know this is probably a fairly normal predicament at this stage in my life but I need more face to face time with my friends!! So I am taking action.
I’m making my goal public. I’m going to initiate more social engagements. Look out friends – it’s coming to an inbox near you.
Next important task is planning what to wear. Dinners out (even if just down the road for Thai) are opportunities to step things up in my beach style world. I’m thinking more bling and more metallic! These are some of the items I’m eyeing off to help me in my quest:
1. Chain detail tee $129.95 by Witchery; 2. Monte Carlo bracelet $49.95 by Witchery; 3. Shining Star heels $50 by Fiebiger Shoes at The Iconic; 4. Alison embellished front tank $89.99 by Forever New; 5. Talk to me sequin skirt $64.95 by Sass at Birdsnest; 6. Vila sequin biker jacket $88.24 by Asos; 7. Layer disc pendant $44.95 by Adorne at Birdsnest; 8. Confetti stone necklace $79.95 by Witchery; 9. Isabella slinky belt $39.99 by Forever New; 10. Metallic stripe cowl scarf $15.99 by Gap; 11. Cherie elastic $14.99 by Forever New; 12. Jillian beaded sleeve tee $89.99 by Forever New; 13. Foil print t-shirt $59.95 by Country Road.
If you have any tips or pearls of wisdom about getting more social balance in your life, I’d absolutely love to hear about it!
