Wendy: Hi Wendy, thanks for joining me today to talk about your new blog.
Wendy: Thanks, pleasure to be here.
Why did you start your Beachstylemum blog?
After having the two little lords, I started to take more pleasure in fashion and putting my outfits together. Maybe it was the end of breastfeeding but I felt an overwhelming urge to make myself feel good and I liked it when I felt both stylish and comfortable. Running after the two rascals means I need to wear practical and comfortable clothes most of the time!
Where did your idea come from?
I was following quite a few fantastic blogs and thought there was potential scope for a coastal / beach style blog with a mummy focus. I’m not sure where the blog will go… at the moment the focus seems to be on fashion and how my outfits are defined by my lifestyle.
What does beach style mean?
I am finding that beach style has many interpretations. One day it might be very coastal/surfie, the next it can be comfy, casual and relaxed.
What inspires you?
Things that make me happy – warm weather, the beach, pretty stuff (having had two boys I feel drawn to pretty things even more these days!), games with my boys, family time.
What does an average Saturday look like in your world?
Awake with the little lords at 6/6.30am. Morning coffee down at our local beach cafe. A play on the sand while we gather treasure (shells). Home for lunch and maybe a nap by little lord #2. Take lords to swimming lessons, husband takes lords home while I play netball. Spaghetti Bolognese on the table by 5.30pm for the hungry, tired munchkins. Little lords into bed. Husband and I drink red wine while watching movie / footy / Game of Thrones. I also multi-task with a spot of online
shopping browsing on my ipad. Husband hasn’t mastered this skill yet.
Any hobbies / extra curricular activities?
At the moment, I am quite consumed by building and improving my blog. I spent many hours last week transferring it from blogger to wordpress. Wow – it’s a steep learning curve this blogging thing!
I work part-time in marketing so am also perfecting the mummy-work juggling act. Sometimes I think I have it all down pat then the little lords get sick / have a growth spurt / have a bad day etc etc and the mum-resilience has to step up a gear or seven.
But when things go to plan, I like playing netball on Saturday afternoons and Tuesday nights, reading bathroom reno mags, going for a run now and then and reading books. This summer I’m also going to try to rediscover my surfing skills (you heard it here first).
What’s your favourite book?
Bronze Horseman. Greatest. Love Story. EVER.
The Rosie Project. For a good honest laugh and cry.
Bright Shiny Morning (by James Frey). Just finished this one. Amazing.
I also recently read Wuthering Heights to see for myself what all the fuss was about. Did I enjoy it? Not really. Do I now feel like a literary connoisseur? Absolutely.
What’s your favourite movie?
Can I have 5? Yes you can because you’re interviewing yourself. OK – Shawshank Redemption, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Grease and Point Break.
Favourite TV show?
Game of Thrones
What’s your favourite outfit?
In winter: Jeans, long sleeved T-shirt, thick cosy cardigan, neon scarf, converse
In summer: Swimmers, beach dress, thongs (flip flops). Wish I could say my hair would be cascading in salty beach style waves but I’m yet to achieve that goal.
Aqua, turquoise, pastel pink, neon pink, yellow. Yep 5 again.
What’s your favourite season?
Winter. Playing opposites.
Thanks so much for sharing a little more about yourself Wendy.
